‘Creed III’ producer Elizabeth Raposo reveals the boxing sequel was ‘a dream come true’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
“This was a dream come true,” producer Elizabeth Raposo reveals about making “Creed III.” “A lot of the times I find myself realizing that I’m doing my job for the 10-year-old version of myself. So this was one of those moments to be able to be a producer on a historic 47-plus-year franchise that is beloved, I knew that it was going to be a big responsibility, but one I was so proud and humbled to take on.” We talked with Raposo as part of our “Meet the Experts” film producers panel. “Creed III” continues the boxing saga that started back in 1976 with the first “Rocky” movie starring Sylvester Stallone. In this continuation of the spinoff “Creed” franchise, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) faces ghosts from his past when he’s reunited with a childhood friend, Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors), who has just been released from prison. But Jordan doesn’t just star in the film. It’s also his feature directing debut.
“The number one thing for us was basically Michael’s time management because he was pulling triple duty, as you say, directing, acting, producing. The focus of our day was really how to maximize his time,” Raposo explains. Unfortunately, “building a time machine wasn’t possible,” so “much of the work that went into building the schedule also took into consideration his training time,” because by the end of the movie he needed to be back in “heavyweight champ fight shape.”
Raposo is especially proud of one of those fight sequences in particular, in which Adonis and Damian share a vision of their history together. That moment “was there from the beginning in [Jordan’s] head and the final product I think is just extraordinary, and I’m really proud of him and what the team did around him to help execute.”
