News and Notes: Guardians Sign Jamie Barria to a Minor-League Deal
News and Notes, Thursday, November 30th, 2023
The Guardians signed former Angels right-handed pitcher, Jamie Barria, to a minor-league deal yesterday.

He’s been mostly a starter, but was moved to the bullpen in 2022. He’s 27 years old, has a career 4.38 ERA and a 5.08 FIP with 6.38/2.94 K/BB/9. His 93 mph fastball generally gets tatooed but he has a very good slider, and an average changeup. Obviously, a minor-league deal is always fine and it’ll be interesting to see what Cleveland’s pitching factory can do with Barria. Given the state of the Angels’ organization, there very well may be some meat left on that developmental bone.
Former Guardian Franmil Reyes hit his league-leading seventh home run in the Dominican Winter League off of former Guardian Esmil Rogers:
in even more fun LIDOM news: Caminero's Escogido teammate Franmil Reyes just hit his league-leading 7th HR, which may not sound like a lot but reaching double-digit HRs in LIDOM is EXTREMELY rare and Franmil is very much on trackpic.twitter.com/5PBTjcjE0n https://t.co/AonOdsWKx3

The Guardians announced the opening of single-game ticket sales on social media platforms. Interestingly, I noted that their most recognizable pitcher was not in the promo photo.
Single game tickets are now on sale!

This led me to wonder when the last time was that Shane Bieber was posted in a photo or video by the social media team. The answer is September 28th. Your mileage may vary, but that seems like more than a coincidence to me.
The Brewers are nearing a contract with their top prospect, Jackson Chourio, reportedly for 8 years and $80 million. I’d be interested to see the Guardians pursue early deals with players like Kyle Manzardo, Chase DeLauter, Bo Naylor, and Tanner Bibee.
