‘He feels much better’ – Postecoglou backs Spurs star to turn his season around
Ange Postecoglou has acknowledged that the last few months have not been easy for Richarlison but backed the forward to deliver when he is back fit.
Richarlison struggled to make the expected impact last season following his big-money move from Everton in the summer of 2022 but there was some hope among Spurs fans that the forward could step up to the plate this season after Harry Kane’s departure.
The 26-year-old certainly showed a lot of promising signs during pre-season but unfortunately, things did not click for him in front of goal at the start of the campaign, with Postecoglou deciding to move Son Heung-min to the number nine role.
The former Everton man has endured a tough few months, even admitting to Globo Esporte back in September that he has been dealing with difficult challenges in his personal life for which he is seeking psychological help.
Postecoglou backs Richarlison to rise to form again
When asked about Richarlison’s struggles this season, Postecoglou told ESPN Brazil: “It’s the nature of football, that’s what I keep telling players.
“I think sometimes, as football players, they are doing what they love. They are paid well to play at the highest level possible. But there are always challenges. And that’s Richarlison’s biggest challenge. It’s been tough.”
The 26-year-old underwent surgery on his pelvis earlier this month, admitting on Instagram at the time that he decided to go under the knife as he was playing with a ‘lot of pain’.
Postecoglou revealed that Richarlison now feels much better and is hopeful of contributing to the team when he returns.
The Spurs head coach added: “He’s had some injuries that haven’t allowed him to try and play the way he wants to, and that’s frustrating. But he’s had sort of a procedure now.
“And, talking to him, if he feels much better with his body. It’s up to him to continue training and get back to his level. We know he can arrive and contribute to the team.”

Despite the speculation linking Richarlison with a move to Saudi Arabia, I do not think Spurs would entertain any offers for him in January. However, the next few months are make-or-break for the Brazilian’s hopes of turning around his Tottenham career.
