Caltrain: Trespasser causing service delays at 4th and King has been taken into custody

SAN FRANCISCO — The person climbing in an unauthorized area caused delays to inbound and outbound trains at the 4th and King Caltrain station in San Francisco early Thursday morning has been taken into custody, according to the commuter rail line.

In a post to social media at 6:03 a.m., the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management told commuters to expect delays and take alternate routes as the police activity affected the station, which is the northernmost end of the train line.

According to Caltrain spokesperson Dan Lieberman, the situation was caused by a trespasser climbing equipment at the 4th and King station. He said law enforcement was actively attempting to detain him as of 7:28 a.m. In a social media post, Caltrain said the man was in the wiring on top of the trains.

There is currently a man on top of our trains and in the overhead wiring. Police are on scene and working to get him down safely. There is no power in the Caltrain wires.

“We are working with local authorities regarding the individual that climbed a train and electrical pole on Caltrain property,” Lieberman said in a statement. “Our primary concern is always the safety of the individual, the public, and our employees. We are working closely with local authorities to resolve the situation safely.”

At 9:13 a.m., the rail line confirmed that the man was taken into custody by police and equipment was being cleared for regular use. Officials did not specify a time that regular service would resume.

Update: As of 9:00 person has been taken into custody and on track equipment in the process of clearing.

According to Caltrain, trains were going to the 22nd Street as of 7:18 a.m., and SamTrans was providing a bus bridge between 22nd and 4th and King.
