Christmas No1 odds revealed after LadBaby dropped out of 2023 race and Fairytale of New York surges
THIS year’s Christmas number one odds have been revealed.
After the news of Shane MacGowan‘s death earlier today, it is believed that The Pogues’ song Fairytail of New York could be in the run for the top spot.

Now, according to bookmaker Coral, they think that the band has a good chance of getting number one.
Coral’s John Hill said: “Punters think there is going to be a wave of support behind The Pogues landing the Christmas number one single this year following the sad passing of Shane MacGowan.
“We make Fairytale of New York odds-on to top the official singles charts on Christmas Day, 36 years after it was released.”
It comes after Roxanne and Mark Hoyle AKA LadBaby revealed that they aren’t running for number one this year.
The husband wife duo have been the top spot between 2018 and 2022.
Earlier today it was revealed that Shane MacGowan had died at the age of 65 after an eight-year health battle.
The Fairytale of New York singer, who had been diagnosed with viral encephalitis – a serious condition which leads to brain swelling – passed away at 3am this morning.
Piers Morgan has started a campaign to get Fairytale of New York to number one after his death.
Paying tribute today, Piers wrote: “RIP Shane MacGowan, 65.
“Irish punk legend, genius Pogues singer/songwriter, and hell-raiser extraordinaire.
“His favourite joke was: ‘I was given six weeks to live, about 25 years ago!’
“Let’s make Fairytale of New York the Christmas No1 as a tribute. (He was born on Xmas Day).”
