Trump shares demand for charges against Capitol cops after Jan. 6 riot
Donald Trump shared a post on his Truth Social network Thursday calling for charges against U.S. Capitol police officers who used force against Jan. 6 rioters.
The former president amplified a post by the Hodge Twins, a pair of right-wing social media influencers, suggesting that videos newly released by House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) exonerated rioters who have been charged in the insurrection and justified charges for police officers who defended the Capitol from the attack.
"The Capitol cops beat the hell out of innocent J6 protesters, and the videos are finally coming out," their post read. "The cops should be charged and the protesters should be freed. This is why the uniparty didn't want the videos released."

According to the Department of Justice, more than 1,069 defendants have been charged in the Capitol assault, and at least 594 of them have pleaded guilty to a variety of charges. At least 98 have been convicted at trial, while another 24 have given guilty pleas.
Trump has been indicted on four counts in Washington, D.C., related to his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss.
