Oscars 2024 broadcast time shifts earlier for the first time
Good news for people on the East Coast.
On Thursday, ABC and the academy announced that the 2024 Oscars will start an hour earlier, at 7 p.m. ET and 4 p.m. PT instead of 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT. As a result, the 96th annual Academy Awards are expected to end before 11 p.m. ET, keeping the culmination of the ceremony within primetime hours.
Following the conclusion of the 2024 Oscars, ABC will air a new and original episode of “Abbott Elementary,” the network’s Emmy Award-winning comedy from Quinta Brunson. The show’s third season was delayed by the writers’ and actors’ strikes but will debut in early 2024.
This year’s Oscars ceremony, where “Everything Everywhere All At Once” won multiple awards including Best Picture, ran for three hours and 37 minutes, ending after 11:30 p.m. ET.
Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the 2024 Oscars, his fourth time as emcee, with Raj Kapoor as showrunner and executive producer and Molly McNearney and Katy Mullan as executive producers. Hamish Hamilton is set to direct the telecast.
Before the Oscars, ABC will air a 30-minute preshow, which is set to start at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.
