Report: Spurs step up interest in attacker after Postecoglou green light
The Times have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have now ‘stepped up’ their efforts to sign Jota on loan from Al-Ittihad.
The speculation linking Jota with a move to Spurs has gone into hyperdrive over the last couple of weeks as we edge closer to the January transfer window.
90 min claimed on November 17 that even though the winger is of interest to Newcastle and other clubs, his number one preference is to reunite with Ange Postecoglou at Spurs.
A couple of days ago, journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport that the Portuguese star fits the profile of winger Spurs are after and that signing the former Celtic man would be a ‘no-brainer’ for the Lilywhites.
Tottenham accelerate efforts to sign Jota
If The Times’ latest update is to be believed, Postecolgou has now told Spurs to sign Jota, who is available on loan, with the North London club now stepping up their interest.
It is explained that while Tottenham’s priority in January is to sign a centre-back, they are also after a wide-attacker as short-term cover for Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic, who are out injured.
The report adds that Jota fits the bill and is expected to make a temporary move away from Al-Ittihad when the transfer window opens in January, just six months on from his switch to the Saudi Pro League side.

If Jota is available on loan, it would indeed be a no-brainer for Spurs, given that Perisic looks unlikely to kick a ball again this season.
However, the winger earns £192k per week in Jeddah and I do not think Tottenham would be willing to offer him a salary anywhere close to that.
So, unless Al-Ittihad subsidise a portion of the 24-year-old’s wages, he would have to take a wage cut to push through the move.
