Report: Brewers Sign Prospect Jackson Chourio to Record Contract

0

The Brewers don’t need David Stearns to generate big news.

Milwaukee is reportedly nearing a new contract with top prospect Jackson Chourio. The deal, expected to be for eight years and $80 million (guaranteed) with two team options, is the largest ever for a player yet to ascend to the major leagues. The previous record was the $50 million the Chicago White Sox signed Luis Robert to in 2020.

Per MLB Pipeline, Chourio, 19, is the Brewers top ranked prospect and second overall prospect in the entire sport.

In 2023, for the Biloxi Shuckers, Milwaukee’s Double-A affiliate slashed .280/.336/.467/.803 with 23 doubles, 22 home runs and 89 RBIs in 122 games. The center fielder was then promoted to the Nashville Sounds, Milwaukee’s Triple-A affiliate, where he slashed .333/.375/.476/.851 with three doubles, no home runs, and two RBIs in six games.

Chourio originally signed with the Brewers on January 15, 2021, as a shortstop for $1.8 million. However, the organization started playing him in center to diversify his skill set, similar to what the Mets did last season with prospect Jett Williams

Milwaukee now views Chourio as their full-time center field moving forward.
