Man Utd want to sign African star with 18 goal contributions in 11 games - report
Manchester United are showing an interest in signing Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy during the winter transfer window, according to Foot Mercato.
The Red Devils have had mixed fortunes in the final third this campaign. Rasmus Hojlund has scored five goals but all of those have come in the Champions League.
He has yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League. Meanwhile, his deputy Anthony Martial has just two goals across all competitions for the club.
United may want to pursue a new striker to ease the burden on Hojlund and Foot Mercato claim that the club see Guirassy as an alternative in their attack.
AC Milan, Newcastle United and Roma have also been linked with the striker, who has not closed the door on leaving Stuttgart midway through the season.
The former Rennes man has a low release clause of €17 million in his contract which can be activated by any club when the transfer window reopens.
Guirassy would be a risk-free investment
United have been guilty of splashing the cash on players over the past few summer transfer windows.
They signed Antony from Ajax for a staggering €100m in the summer of 2022, but the Brazilian has been a huge disappointment with eight goals from 57 outings.
Jadon Sancho also falls into a similar category. The club now need to be clever with their investment and a January move for Guirassy would be a shrewd decision.
The Guinean star is enjoying the best phase of his career. He has been in sensational form for Stuttgart with 16 goals and two assists from just 11 games this season.
His tally is already better than what United’s forwards have achieved this term. In our view, he would be a risk-free investment with the low price tag for a transfer.
In the current market situation, €17m can be considered as a huge bargain. If Guirassy can replicate his Bundesliga form, it could transform United’s league fortunes.
United face a tough task on their hands to finish in the top four this term and bringing in a player like Guirassy in January could propel them towards Champions League qualification.
