COLUMBUS — Cerssandra McPherson, a paraprofessional working with Toledo Public Schools special education students, is one of two Ohio nominees for the first national Recognizing Inspirational School Employees Award.

Toledo Fire Chief Brian Byrd promoted Captain Michael Posadny and Captain Sharyl Close to battalion chiefs on Friday. Their family and crew members were able to attend a small ceremony at Fire Station 6. According to a release, Posadny and Close were both appointed to the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department on Sept. 11, 1992.

COLUMBUS — A Toledo area attorney was among four names submitted to Gov. Mike DeWine on Friday for consideration for appointment to a powerful regulatory panel dealing with the aftermath of a Statehouse scandal surrounding the state's $1 billion bailout of two nuclear power plants.



Michigan restaurants can open at 25 percent capacity, with curfew

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan restaurants and bars can reopen for indoor dining at 25 percent capacity but with a 10 p.m. curfew starting Feb. 1, and concessions can resume at casinos, movie theaters, and stadiums, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Friday.

NRC begins discussion on extending nuclear plant licenses out to 100 years

In what could best be described as a massive regulatory trial balloon, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission started a national discussion about the possibility of extending commercial nuclear-plant licenses out to 100 years for utilities that could prove they could safely operate them that long.

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to send the article of impeachment against Donald Trump to the Senate on Monday, launching the start of the former president’s trial on a charge of incitement of insurrection over the deadly Capitol riot.

BAGHDAD — Twin suicide bombings ripped through a busy market in the Iraqi capital on Thursday, killing at least 32 people and wounding dozens, officials said in what was the first massive bombing in years, harkening back to darker days of rampant militant attacks.
