Legit case in one of those Pokemon games too.
How DARE you make me roll for CHA. Are you questioning my allure just because of Animal Crossing Items my identity? You understand that rolling for charm is ableist do not you? Some people have social anxiety that doesn't allow them to get a top CHA mod. You're A PIG. I bet you are a straight white man also. Racist.
Legit case in one of those Pokemon games too. You pick the woman character because her character is very....girly lmao and so she does a lot of extra cutesy wootsy bullshit that takes up time when she is an NPC. The man character is quite stoic compared and cuts out all the extra stuff. That's just the kind of thing that's ruining D&D at the moment, you joke about it but people are legitimately fighting Orc rights. That the very concept of having a race which leans towards bad alignment in a world where orientation is enforced and important by magic that exists in world is racist.
Didn't they say they're eliminating'race' for following entrances because iT wAs rAcIsT? You pick your own now so that you may be a strong elf or a smart orc.
They did not really even eliminate racial bonusesthey just gave you the option to change them if you would like.
The matter is, people could have been doing this anyway, but now it's in the official rules for 5e. If people do not want bad orcs, they could just not have evil orcs in their effort, it is so simple.I listen to Not Another D&D Podcast and their effort two exists in a world where interbreeding is a thing for millenia, therefore that there are no"races". Every being is a multitude of distinct racial aspects.
For player characters it let the players pick one civic"class" while having their personality look however the desire, and all beings are very"human-monster hybrid".
Eg. Emily's PC, Fia, is portrayed as being violet skinned and fanged, slightly"orcish" in her face however long and gangly elven physique. She uses the racial stats of Vedalken. It is a mishmash of different descriptions that works great having a"look how you would like, but apply a race's features".
I personally think it's a bit OP since you can chose a feat onto every race (a feat is essentially like a gift and a few are extremely strong), but in the end it's to make your character more elastic once you wish to play with an Orc Wizard f.e. and don't have much use for the bonus strength. It's more fun because you can play any race as any course but it makes races only another bit of fluff information that Nook Miles Ticket For Sale you inform your party once and they then overlook the whole game that their wizard is a half-orc.
