California Highway Patrol officer fatally shoots man walking on freeway, prompting investigation

State authorities are investigating after a California Highway Patrol officer shot and killed a man on a Los Angeles area freeway during a struggle over the weekend that was recorded on video. The deadly encounter occurred Sunday afternoon during a struggle with a man who'd been seen walking on Interstate 105. The CHP says the man refused to leave the freeway and that led to a struggle during which the man tried to shock the officer with a stun gun. A bystander's video shows the two struggling in the empty lanes. The video shows the officer firing at least four shots at the man as he lay on the pavement. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
