Senator Alexei Pushkov ridiculed the decision of the US State Department to close the American consulates general in Russia. The politician shared his opinion on this issue in his Telegram channel on Saturday, December 19.
According to Pushkov, the closure of the last two diplomatic missions will hardly allow the American side to make significant savings. “Saving $ 3.2 million is ridiculous. The US economy and budget have problems, but still not to the same extent. This is a political decision, ”the senator stressed.
He also noted that such decisions by Washington testify to its transition to the “ice war” against Russia.
The US decision to close its consulates in Russia became known earlier on December 19. At the same time, the State Department explained that such measures are associated with the optimization of the work of the American diplomatic mission. The State Duma believed that the closure of US consulates could be associated with the anti-Russian fever of the head of the US State Department, Mike Pompeo.
