The police opened a criminal case after the accident in the Samara region. Seven people were killed in a collision between an Isuzu truck and a Volkswagen passenger car, regional prosecutors said. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the region, all the victims were in a passenger car.
The criminal case was opened under Part 5 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules, resulting in the death of two or more persons). “Due to the fact that a minor died in an accident, the case will be removed by the prosecutor’s office from the investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and transferred to the Investigative Directorate of the ICR in the Samara region,” a representative of the prosecutor’s office told Interfax. He specified that the prosecutor’s office will also check the condition of the road.
The Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Samara region reported that all seven victims, two girls and five young people from 17 to 24 years old, were in a Volkswagen Touareg.
The accident happened this morning on the Samara-Togliatti highway. According to preliminary data, the driver of a passenger car is considered the culprit of the accident, he drove into the oncoming lane. The truck driver was not injured.
