A husband and wife from Wyoming have been charged in the July 7 death of the woman’s 16-year-old son, after encouraging him to drink to the point of alcohol poisoning. Joseph M. Richardson and Paulette L. Richardson thought they were teaching her son a “lesson” by having him drink until he got sick. An autopsy revealed the teen’s blood-alcohol level was at 0.587 percent.

After Jessica Biel went off birth control to try for a baby (which resulted in little Silas, her spawn with Justin Timberlake), she realized she had a lot of questions pertaining to pregnancy, contraception and her own body. To help educate women like herself, Biel teamed up with Saundra Pelletier, founder of the women’s reproductive health organization, WomanCare Global. Caitlyn Jenner has filed the paperwork to officially change her name and gender transition. In Los Angeles, according to the AP, Jenner made the final moves to change her legal name from Bruce Jenner to Caitlyn Marie Jenner, a “change to better match her identity.”

It seems like just moments ago that we all endured the first debate among thousands of Republicans who want to be president. And yet somehow, both fall and another debate are upon us, twin reminders of the passage of time, the inevitability of death, and the grim unpleasant duties that consume much of our fleeting waking lives upon this mortal coil. Wednesday morning, Texas ninth grader Ahmed Mohamed brought a homemade clock to school to show to his teachers. However, an English teacher thought it was a bomb and Mohamed was arrested shortly after. Since then, Mohamed has been invited to the White House, Facebook, Google, and multiple universities for being such a bright kid who happens to live in a prejudiced, terrified country.

I wouldn’t say that I was raped that night, but that’s not because I can’t be. And just in that sad assertion—that someone could hypothetically rape me—I’m in disagreement with an editorial published in this weekend’s Chicago Sun-Times, in which writer Mary Mitchell essentially argued that sex workers cannot be raped. She talks about a case in which a sex worker was held at gun point and forced to have sex; calling it rape, she says, “mak[es] a mockery of rape victims.”
